0% plastic packaging by 2012

Since 2008 DMS has had a strong focus on reducing its carbon footprint and indeed focus on reducing the amount of plastic used in its music packaging. It was one of the first companies to proceed with the IG mark (Julies Bicycle) and has a full range of low carbon packaging for music and in particular CD and DVD based releases.

This range has proved immensely popular with clients and end purchasers and has led to DMS significantly reducing the amount of plastic used in packaging from 90% in 2008 to 10% in 2010. The focus is to have 0% plastic packaging by 2012.

Why plastic free for DMS?

Dave Summers, Managing Director of DMS, grew up in Cornwall and lived next to the beach until his early 20’s. Visiting the coast every summer and being a keen yachtsman, he was horrified to see with his own eyes and read stories about huge amounts of dumped plastic floating around the world’s oceans. Although aware that he was powerless to do anything about it, he made the conscious decision that his company would no longer contribute to this environmental disaster.

Encouraged and educated by Julies Bicycle, Dave set about changing the way his company produced packaging and this has led to DMS significantly reducing the amount of plastic used in DMS packaging products. All card and paper stocks currently used by DMS are from FSC certified sources and we also have a huge choice of recycled stocks available.

Bespoke Packaging Design and Production

DMS has arrangements with numerous print suppliers based around the world to satisfy its current demand for high quality disc packaging and this has led the company to create a new division offering bespoke, custom designed, plastic free packaging to non music clients.

There is always an alternative way to packaging discs in plastic and our research has shown that the perceived value of printed card packaging when properly designed and produced is higher thus ensuring less damage to the environment and higher returns for your investment.
