DMS launches new sailing project ‘Waste Knot’ with Pete Goss MBE.
DMS Vinyl has taken delivery of a new Cornish-built Dazcat 1495 multihull branded in the extremely vibrant ‘Waste Knot’ colours.
‘Waste Knot’ is the flagship of a new DMS sailing campaign highlighting plastic waste and ocean care, specifically how old vinyl records and plastic can - and should - be used to make new vinyl records for the thousands of clients DMS serves around the world.
DMS once again joins forces with ocean adventurer and offshore racer Pete Goss MBE, who ran a successful sailing campaign with DMS in 2010.
DMS owner Dave Summers said: "We decided to brand the new racing multihull in a similar graffiti style to the Class 40 that Pete competed in the 2010 Route Du Rhum Single Handed Transatlantic Race.
“We aim to highlight the damage plastic is doing to the oceans by promoting a very powerful message: the DMS target to reuse old vinyl records and other plastic waste and repurpose it in the manufacture of vinyl records.
“Hence ‘Waste Knot’ was born!”
DMS and its main production partner GZ Media in the Czech Republic are determined to continue to reduce their demands upon the environment by utilising methods that reduce the need for virgin materials by reprocessing used/waste records and recovered plastic bottles.
“These methods have been fully proven to have an equally great sounding final product,” says Summers.
The stunning new designs for the Dazcat 1495 have a similar graffiti style to that of the Class 40 and once again were superbly designed by the creative duo of Danny Capozzi & Phil Rees. The two main characters in the sail designs are dogs Barney (based on a fun-loving Jack Russell) who featured on our 2010 raceboat and Nelly (a music loving, trash gobbling golden Labrador).
Both dogs were closely linked to Summers, loved water and will be the central characters in the environmental education campaigns that DMS are planning with another one of its partners Cornwall Climate Care, centred around climate change and ocean care.
The awesome designs were hand painted on the sails (465 square metres of them) by Ocean Art and the 50 ft hulls were wrapped by Grapefruit Graphics. Both these Southampton-based companies are world leaders in the branding of racing yachts and DMS was proud to partner with them once again. The design process was captured on video and a short three-minute launch video shows everything from ‘Pencil to Ocean’ as the designs came to life, which you can watch here.
The race crew squad includes Pete Goss MBE, Dave Summers, Tom Gall, Brendan Seward, Andy Sinclair, Graeme McLeod, Matt Blakeston and Paddy Hutchings with one or two special guests added for some of the 2026 race programme below.
